Biography:
Rural Wisconsin trial lawyer of seventeen years turned legal tech entrepreneur whose company, LexBlog, Inc. brought blogging to the legal profession in 2003. Father of five great kids, all living and working in Seattle (two at Microsoft, one at Amazon, and two at LexBlog). We lost their mom and my wife and best friend to ovarian cancer in 2020. I wanted to be a lawyer since I was kid because of the opportunity to help people. With the advent of America Online, I began helping people on its message boards and chats. I found it so rewarding that I closed my law firm and moved to Seattle to found Prairielaw.com, a virtual law community, later the lion’s share of lawyers.com when acquired by LexisNexis. I bumped into a blog as a way to teach lawyers how to develop business on the Internet. Not through websites and distributing information alone, but by connecting with people in a real and authentic way so as to build a name, relationships and trust. When I couldn't find someone to help me with my own blog, I started LexBlog as a full-service blog solution for lawyers (strategic consulting, design, hosting, SEO, coaching, marketing, free ongoing support). From 7 blogs the first year, we’ve grown into the leading legal publishing platform, serving solo practitioners to the largest law firms in each the United States, China and India. The LexBlog legal blogging community aggregates, curates, publishes and syndicates the contributions of over 30,000 legal bloggers, worldwide, LexBlog platform platform user or not.
